The Riparian Vegetation Management Task Force was created in 2007 by the Nebraska Unicameral as part of LB 701. The legislation, which was signed by Governor Heineman on May 1, 2007, outlined these duties and responsibilities for the Task Force:

• Develop and prioritize vegetation management goals and objectives;

• Analyze the cost effectiveness of available vegetation treatments;

• Develop plans and policies to achieve goals and objectives;

• Make recommendations to the Governor and Legislature regarding legislation needed to achieve its goals and objectives on or before December 15, 2007, and each year thereafter with a final report due prior to June 30, 2009.

LB 701

LB 701 also created a grant program, managed by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, to be utilized for vegetation management programs designed to improve streamflow. This press release outlines the four projects that have been awarded grants under this new program. The legislation charges the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission with assisting grant recipients in implementing their projects.
