Small Grain Commodity Survey

During the summer of 2011 four wheat fields were surveyed in 2 counties. This detection survey gathered data to determine the status of the Cereal cyst nematode (Heterodera filipjevi), Mediterranean cereal cyst nematode (Heterodera latipons) and British root-knot nematode (Meliodogyne artiellia). All samples were sent to UNL for analysis and results are pending. More survey is planned for the summer of 2012. Survey that takes place during the summer will include survey for dwarf-bunt (Tilletia controversa), wheat flag smut (Urocystis agropyri), black stem rust (Puccinia graminis) and rust susceptible varieties of barberry (Berberis sp., Mahonia sp., and Mahoberberis sp.), African black beetle (Heteronychus arator), cucurbit beetle (Diabrotica speciosa), maritime garden snail (Cernuella virgata), conical snails (Cochlicella spp.) and wheat bug (Nysius huttoni).
