Pine Shoot Beetle (Tomicus piniperda) Survey
Pine shoot beetle (Tomicus piniperda) was discovered in Ohio in July, 1992. It is now found in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. This insect attacks pine and destroys shoots during its feeding. This insect is under federal quarantine. When feeding is severe, tree height and diameter growth are reduced.There were 63 retail Christmas tree lots in14 Nebraska counties in 2009, which were surveyed to detect any interstate movement of pine shoot beetle. All sites were negative.
