Noxious Weed Survey

In 2011, a total of 70 sites in 24 counties, were surveyed to identify and document infestations of garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), St. Johnswort (Hypericum perforatum), perennial pepper weed (Lepidium latifolium), leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula), Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica), kudzu (Pueraria lobata), houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale), spotted and diffuse knapweeds (Centaurea stoebe) and yellow and dalmation toadflax (Linaria vulgaris). Surveys took place primarily along the Missouri River in eastern parts of the state, the Republican River in southern Nebraska, and the Platte River in central and eastern Nebraska, and in the rangeland of Nebraska’s central and western counties. The findings of the 2011 survey are as follows: St. Johnswort in two counties (Antelope and Knox). Leafy spurge in 11 counties (Antelope, Buffalo, Cedar, Dodge, Pierce, Madison, Merrick, Nance, Pierce, Platte, and Sheridan) . Japanese Knotweed in three counties (Douglas, Garfield and Lancaster). Kudzu in one county (Otoe). Houndstongue in two counties (Dawes and Sheridan). Spotted and diffuse knapweeds in six counties (Antelope, Box Butte, Garfield, Holt, Pierce and Sioux). Yellow and dalmation toadflax in five counties (Box Butte, Clay, Chase, Dundy and Hitchcock).
