

One hundred sixteen high school juniors and seniors are in Lincoln this week for the 33rd annual Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI). During this five-day event, delegates have the opportunity to further their interest in Nebraska agriculture by discussing agricultural policy and marketing, hearing from motivational speakers, and participating in many leadership building activities.

Monday
Gary Leever, Potato Development Program Administrator with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture presented a history of NAYI.
Dr. Ron Roskens, President of Global Connections, Inc. presented, "But the Wound Won't Last."
Mr. Jim Pillen, CEO of Progressive Swine Technologies discussed the "Public Perception of Today's Agriculture."

Tuesday
Mr. Joe Thompson from Hemingford discusses potatoes with NAYI delegates during the Alternatives in Agriculture session.
Mr. Jim Ballard from James Arthur Vineyards discussed "From Vines to Wines" with the delegates.
Dr. Fayrene Hamouz, Associate Dean from the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences spoke to delegates about etiquette.
Lt. Governor Dave Heineman spoke to the NAYI delegates during lunch.
The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council presented a college prep panel for the NAYI delegates.
Mr. Scott Friedman, a motivational speaker presented "The Best Way to Predict the Future is to Create It" during the NAYI Sate Dinner.
Three students from Taiwan have been attending NAYI this week. They are Wan-ting Lin, Fu- mi Lin and Yuan-che Liu.
Jo-chin Wang, the Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kansas City visited NAYI during the State Dinner.
The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute Award of Merit was presented to Mr. Dave Rocker.
Wednesday
Mrs. Ann Marie Bosshammer, the Director of Marketing for the Nebraska Beef Council presented, "What's New with Beef Today."
Mr. Rod Johnson, the Executive Director of the Nebraska Pork Producers spoke to delegates about "Opportunities to Achieve your Vision."

Mr. Randy Klein with the Nebraska Corn Board explained to the NAYI delegates that there is "More to Corn than Cornflakes."
Mr. Mike Torrey, the Deputy Chief of Staff for the United States Department of Agriculture spoke during Wednesday's luncheon.
Mr. Paul Timm, the Vocational Ag Instructor from Laurel-Concord discussed, "The Amazing Honey Bee" with the NAYI delegates.
Dr. Ron Hanson, a Professor of Agricultural Economics at UNL explained why, "Farms Can be Replaces Farm Families Cannot."
During NAYI, the delegates took tours of UNL's East Campus, and the different majors offered, including: Ag Economics / Ag Business, Agronomy / Horticulture, Animal Science, and Ag Leadership, Education and Communications.
Wednesday's NAYI activities concluded with a dance.
