Governor and NDA Assistant Director Announce 2006 "The Story of Nebraska Agriculture" Poster Contest Winners to Celebrate National Ag Week

OMAHA - To celebrate National Ag Week, Governor Dave Heineman and Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) Assistant Director Jamie Karl today announced the winners of the 2006 "The Story of Nebraska Agriculture" poster contest.

The poster winners were revealed during a press conference where Governor Heineman signed a proclamation declaring March 19-25 National Ag Week in Nebraska.

The contest, sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, generated 1,599 entries created by first through sixth grade students from across Nebraska.

"Nebraska has a rich tradition of honoring our rural roots, and no industry means as much to our small communities as agriculture," Governor Dave Heineman said. "I am always pleased to see young people participating in National Ag Week events. The quality of the posters we received means that teachers in Nebraska remember the value of the people who farm and ranch for a living."

NDA Director Ibach said, "Agriculture is Nebraska's number one industry, and we are extremely pleased to see that the students that participated in this contest understood that fact."

The winners are:

First and Second grade division:

Third and Fourth grade division: Fifth and Sixth grade division: The winning posters may be viewed on the Nebraska Department of Agriculture's web site at www.agr.ne.gov, under the Kids Page.
