LINCOLN - Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) Director Greg Ibach today announced the selection of 140 high school juniors and seniors to attend the 36th annual Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI). NAYI will be held July 8-12 in Lincoln on the University of Nebraska campus.
"We are pleased to welcome one of the largest delegations in recent years," Ibach said. "These delegates are tomorrow's agricultural leaders, and their interest in the industry will help ensure that agriculture continues to be at the forefront in this state."
"Agriculture's Future, Burning Bright" is the theme for this year's Institute. During the five days the delegates will discuss agriculture policy, international marketing and other issues important to the agriculture industry. Motivational speakers, discussion groups and a farm management program will challenge the delegates to develop leadership potential and strengthen their pride in Nebraska agriculture.
Since 1971, more that 4,500 youth from across the state have participated in NAYI, which serves as a means of introducing Nebraska's high school students to the many opportunities in the agriculture industry. NAYI is the longest-running agriculture youth institute of its kind in the nation.
NAYI is coordinated by the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council, comprised of 12 college-age men and women selected by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Alyssa Smola, of David City, is the Agricultural Youth Coordinator for NDA and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day planning of the Institute.
A complete list of all 2007 NAYI delegates and their hometowns is available by calling (402) 471-4876 or by e-mailing nayi@agr.ne.gov.
