LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) Poultry and Egg Division invites all Nebraska amateur and professional artists to participate in the 2007 state egg artistry contest. The winning entry will represent Nebraska in the 2007 White House Easter Egg Display.
Poultry and Egg Division Director Susan Joy said she encourages anyone with an artistic flair to consider entering the contest.
"In the past we've seen some extremely creative ideas transformed into beautiful egg artwork. The variety is amazing," Joy said. "The public gets the opportunity to view and judge the entries and that adds to the excitement."
Decorated eggs must depict one or more special feature(s) of Nebraska. Past entries have been decorated with landscapes, state symbols, beads, feathers and various other designs representing Nebraska. Entries are due August 21.
Entries will be on display for public viewing and judging at the University of Nebraska State Museum (Morrill Hall), located at 14th and U Streets in Lincoln from August 22 to October 2.
Nebraska residents, including previous winning artists, are eligible for the competition. To request contest criteria, please contact Mary Torell by phone at (402) 472-0752 or by e-mail at mtorell2@unl.edu, or visit www.nebraskapoultry.org.
