NDA Hosts "Agricultural Adventure" at Segner Farm

LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) hosted an "Agricultural Adventure" today.

Governor Dave Heineman and NDA Director Greg Ibach participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Paul and Deb Segner farm to open their new business a 1,200 head grow-finish swine building. The new operation is projected to annually generate more than $113,000 of local economic activity.

Paul Segner said they are expanding their current operation as a way to generate additional income and plan for their family's future. The Segners have three sons.

Following the ribbon cutting, area pork producers and members of the public discussed the Nebraska Model for Pork Production with representatives of the Nebraska Pork Producers and the Segner family, who co-sponsored the event. Around 200 people attended the ceremony.

"I am always excited to see a new agricultural operation in Nebraska," Governor Heineman said. "Agriculture is the backbone of this state, and when agriculture does well, so do the main streets in small communities in Nebraska."

NDA sponsors "Agricultural Adventures" to promote Nebraska's various agricultural products and agricultural activities.

Nebraska ranks sixth nationwide in all hogs and pigs on farms with 2,850,000 head.
