Chronic Wasting Disease testing during the 2005 deer hunting season produced 15 positives from 7,381 samples collected. Since testing began in 1997 there have been 65 positive mule deer and 29 positive white-tailed deer, out of 24,849 tested.
The locations of free ranging deer testing positive for the years 2002 - 2005 are shown below.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will continue its surveillance of this disease by again collecting samples during the deer hunting seasons this year. Your cooperation with this effort is appreciated.
To date there is no scientific connection between Chronic Wasting Disease and human illness. However, the Commission strongly recommends that hunters do not eat deer that appear to be in poor health.
