Pesticide Sensitive Crop Locater

While all agricultural crops can be damaged by accidental pesticide drift, many "new" crops are especially sensitive to pesticides, causing drastic economic impacts to individual growers. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), in conjunction with the University of Nebraska, Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies, has developed an on-line locater for pesticide-sensitive commercial crops. Pesticide applicators are encouraged to use this web site to determine if any sensitive crops are near a planned pesticide application site, and adjust their procedures (timing or application method) accordingly. Keep in mind, however, that listings in this locater are voluntary, and not all sensitive crop locations may be listed at any one time. Applicators are encouraged to use this service and document known locations in your application records, or simply print out a view from this locater. It would also be a good idea to scout the area beforehand to become familiar with the landscape. Stop and visit with neighbors who may have sensitive crops to let them know of your intentions, and try to allay any concerns they may have.

NDA encourages commercial growers of pesticide-sensitive crops to register their locations at this web site so pesticide applicators can access information for their area. This service is only as good as the information contained here, so new information should be updated as soon as possible. In addition, growers should take the time to contact their neighbors and/or local pesticide dealers/co-ops to let them know of concerns about the potential for pesticide damage. Good communication is the key to avoiding these problems.

Disclaimer: The Nebraska Department of Agriculture and University of Nebraska assume no liability for the accuracy of the information provided by the producers or adverse action relating to the directory. All crop information is provided voluntarily to the Department by the producers, and the Department reserves the right to determine eligible producers and eligible sensitive crop locations. The Pesticide Sensitive Crop Locater is provided as a service to producers and pesticide applicators. Referencing this information does not remove any liability of the user to follow all applicable laws, regulations, and rules.

Commercial Growers of Pesticide-Sensitive Crops - Register your crop locations here, so they can be shown in the map and database searches.

Pesticide Applicators - Search your pesticide application sites to determine if sensitive crops are nearby, using one of the following methods:

Search the Pesticide-Sensitive Crop Locater database - by legal description (section, township, and range), county, or crop type to create a listing of crop sites meeting those conditions.

Visually search the Pesticide-Sensitive Crop Locater Mapping System - which allows you to zoom in/out to a specific area to locate pesticide sensitive crops near your pesticide application area.

The following tools can be used to gauge wind direction, wind speed, and other climatic conditions at a planned application site; however, label directions and the conditions at the application site at the time of application should be used to determine whether to apply or not, and if so, additional precautions needed.

Real-time Weather Information - Use these links to gauge the weather conditions at your application site:

National Center for Atmospheric Research - For real-time weather data, including temperature, wind speed and direction, dew point, and more, open the "stations.txt" file in the upper right-hand box labeled "text observations" and find the weather station nearest you. Copy the four-letter station code, then use the back button, and paste the code in the window under "test observations." Then select "translated," and hit "retrieve." The time of last observation is reported as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), also known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Subtract 6 hours to determine the time of observation in the central time zone, or subtract 7 hours to determine the time of observation in the mountain time zone
Weather Forecasts - Use these links to gauge expected weather conditions at your application site.
National Weather Service - use the interactive map to click on the state, move in any direction to find your locale, then click on the general area to get a forecast. Or, use the window in the upper left-hand corner to type in your city/state or zip code.
Living Near a Vineyard - Produced by the Nebraska Winery and Grape Growers Association, this brochure describes the production activities of a typical vineyard.
