January 2007 - EPA requests comment
on Proposed Risk Mitigation Decision for Nine Rodenticides
http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/factsheets/chemicals/rodenticides_fs.htm. Rodenticides are
an important tool for controlling mice and rats around the home. However, as currently marketed
and used, these products also present human and environmental safety concerns, including
exposures to children and risks to wildlife. EPA is soliciting public comment on these proposed
risk mitigation decisions and impact assessment for rodenticides. Comments are due to EPA by
March 19, 2007.
December 2006 - EPA cancels the
registrations of all pesticide
products containing lindane (EPA-HQ-OPP-2002-0202).

produced, sold or distributed for several years, the prohibition on sales, distribution and use of
existing stocks is effective immediately." Individuals having product in this cancellation order
should contact NDA for proper disposal options.
EPA extends the comment period until January
5, 2007, concerning a petition filed by the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA)
requesting the Agency to modify the minimum-risk regulations at 40 CFR 152.25(f) for those
products that claim to control public health pests to be subject to EPA registration requirements
as a precondition of their sale. Individuals wanting to view the comments received to date, or
provide comments themselves, should visit the Federal docket at

March 2006 - The Nebraska
Department of Agriculture
recently submitted a FIFRA Section 24(c) (Special Local Needs label) to EPA for the use of
Rozol Pocket Gopher Bait to used to control black tailed prairie dogs. The label allows use
between October 1 and March 15 in each of the next three years (expiring March 15, 2008).
While Rozol Pocket Gopher Bait is labeled as a general use pesticide for pocket gophers, the
NDA has required that it be labeled as a Restricted Use Pesticide for the control of prairie dogs,
thus requiring certification and licensing by the user of the product. The SLN label for Rozol Pocket Gopher Bait for use to control prairie

EPA Requests
Comments on FIFRA-Clean Water Act Proposed Rule - EPA is issuing an interpretive
statement and a proposed rule in response to questions raised about Clean Water Act (CWA)
permitting requirements for the application of pesticides to or over the nation's waters. The
statement reflects EPA's belief that a CWA permit is not required where application of a
particular pesticide to or over water is consistent with requirements under the Federal Insecticide,
Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). However, EPA is reinforcing for local officials,
resource managers, agricultural producers, and other pesticide users the importance of applying
pesticides in accordance with their label directions. The Federal Register Notice, which contains
information on how to comment, as well as other supplemental information can be found on this
page.
